Photofest

The finishing lab for photographs

An image goes in.
A photograph comes out.

People believe photographs. They study them, print them, keep them. Images they scroll past, and by now everyone knows the tells: plastic skin, sterile cleanliness, grain sprinkled on top like dust. The value of this lab is the difference between those two receptions. What Photofest sells is belief.

What the lab does

A photograph is believed because it carries the marks of having happened: light through a lens onto film, and film pushing back with physics of its own. Photofest runs your image through that physics, after the fact and for real.

Proof

Every photograph on this page came out of this lab, from the collection HOLY, 1975–1995. None of them began as film. Most never had an original at all. They are shown here because they survive the only test that matters: you read them as photographs before you read anything else.

The receipts

A film look you can audit. Every stock is calibrated to the manufacturer's published RMS granularity (σD×1000 at density 1.0 through a 48 µm aperture), and Selwyn's law back-solves that number to an effective grain area. The areas come out at real silver-crystal and dye-cloud sizes, which is the sanity check that the chain is honest.
